An unidentified man traveled from Liberia, leaving on 9/19 and arriving in the US on 9/20. He began showing symptoms 4 or 5 days later on the 24th. He did not show any symptoms of Ebola either on departure from Liberia or arrival in the United States. The man initially sought care on the 26th and was admitted to Texas Health Presbyterian Hospital in Dallas on the 28th. The patient was symptomatic but not in isolation from 9/24 to 9/28. The CDC is sending teams of epidemiologists to the hospital in Dallas to help with measures to contain the disease and help with contact tracing.

It does not appear that the man was involved in the health response to Ebola in west Africa. The question on whether he traveled on a commercial airline was avoided, but seemed to imply that he did, but stressed that he showed no symptoms during the air travel time. Patient confidentiality kept health authorities from detailing any symptoms, or saying if he was going to be treated entirely at Texas Health Presbyterian Hospital in Dallas, but confirmed he is in intensive care and being treated by specialists.

Contact tracing has so far identified that he was exposed to a handful or people: a few family members, and 3 or 4 additional community members. He was in the USA to visit family members but it is unclear if he was a US citizen. He is the first patient diagnosed in the USA with Ebola (excepting those health workers who were evacuated into quarantine in previous weeks).
